Gloria! on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
We open the season with music spanning the 18th to the 20th centuries featuring Antonio
Vivaldi’s well-known Gloria. Best known for his Adagio for Strings, American composer Samuel
Barber also wrote choral works, opera, and for solo and accompanied instruments, including
the Canzonetta for Oboe and Strings. This highly expressive work is an ideal showpiece for
Eileen Whalen, Principal Oboist of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
